Pharmacovigilance (PV) is one of the fastest-growing career paths in India’s life science sector. With the rise of global clinical trials, outsourcing, and regulatory scrutiny, India has become a major hub for drug safety operations. 👉 Yet, despite this growing demand, most universities in India fail to prepare students for a career in PV. 🔎 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗽 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗮 1️⃣ Outdated Curriculum 📚 Most pharmacy and life science programs still focus on pharmacology, pharmaceutics, and chemistry. Important, but missing critical PV domains like ICSR case processing, MedDRA coding, Argus Safety, and regulatory compliance. 2️⃣ Lack of Industry Integration 🤝 Unlike Europe or North America, Indian colleges rarely collaborate with pharma companies or CROs. With no internships, workshops, or PV database exposure, students remain unprepared for entry-level roles. 3️⃣ Skill Gap in Compliance & Technology 💻 PV is moving towards digital systems, automation, and AI. But graduates often lack training, as academic programs fail to keep up with industry transformation. 4️⃣ Limited Awareness Among Students ❗ Many students don’t even know PV exists as a career option until late in their degree — creating a skill mismatch and pushing them towards certification courses post-graduation. 🚀 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 ✅ Curriculum Reform – Add pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, and clinical data management into the core syllabus. ✅ Industry Partnerships – Collaborate with CROs, MNCs, and regulators for internships, lectures, and training modules. ✅ Practical Skill Development – Teach safety databases, MedDRA coding, narrative writing, and compliance. ✅ Career Counseling – Create awareness drives and workshops to introduce PV early in a student’s journey. 🌍 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗔𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 India has the talent and recognition to be a global leader in PV.
